Bethal: Leave ‘rapist’ to us, say women at court

2014-02-19 12:12

A group of women showed their support for the alleged victim of a gang-rape when they arrived at the Magistrates’ Court in Bethal, Mpumalanga, dressed in pink and purple today.

The victim, a teacher, was allegedly gang-raped by six men hired by her husband, and by the husband himself.

The accused is applying for bail. He was arrested about two weeks ago.

“We hope they release him [on bail]. They must just give him to us women,” one of the women said.

Some of the women said they did not know the victim nor the accused but had gathered at court to show their disapproval.

Another group of women were talking among themselves, saying they wanted to “shoot” the suspect. “The Devil is loose in Bethal,” they said.
