Birds lack depth – Igesund

2012-04-03 14:52

A lack of depth in Moroka Swallows squad is a concern, coach Gordon Igesund said this prior to their league match against Bidvest Wits.

The Dube Birds host Wits in the Absa Premiership match at Dobsonville Stadium tomorrow evening.

Igesund added that the club could not buy more players as they had exceeded and exhausted the season’s budget.

“I have quality players for each position and I’m confident that we’ll do well. Tomorrow’s game is a huge one for us. We are looking forward to the challenge. We have tough games ahead against Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town,” he added.

Igesund said his main headaches are injuries to senior players and a lack of depth in the team as they want challenge for the league title.

The Soweto side are third in the log with 38 points from their 22 matches.

But despite being without the services of several key players, Ashraf Hendricks, Siyabonga Nomvethe and Joseph Makhanya, Igesund remains steadfast in his belief his side have got what it takes to maintain their challenge on all fronts.

“We are confident that we can do well and we want a win because our ambition is not just to get three points but to take the league. I think that this match is very important for our team.

“We collected a point last week away against SuperSport. I’m quite content with the point. We will have to try very hard to get a win. We must get the goals to beat them and bag the three points,” added Igesund.
