Blatter ‘forced to find new ideas’

2011-04-25 14:40

Mohamed bin Hammam of Qatar says the fresh ideas coming from Fifa president Sepp Blatter may “not have seen the light of day” had he not decided to run against him for the top job in world football.

Bin Hammam, the Asian Football Confederation president, is the only candidate facing Blatter in the presidential election on June 1.

On his blog today, Bin Hammam welcomed Blatter’s ideas to reform the organisation he has run since 1998. But he added that Blatter’s campaign promises “contradict” his earlier stands and only changed after he announced his candidacy.

Blatter’s campaign is based on ensuring stability, tackling corruption and spreading $1 billion (about R6.7 billion) among Fifa members for development over the next four years.
