Blood shortage hits critical stage

2010-04-08 12:20

THERE is less than two days of blood stock in the country, instead

of the required five to seven days, the SA National Blood Service (SANBS) said

in a statement today.

The organisation had a serious shortage of blood and appealed to

people, especially group O types, to donate, spokesman Justice Mohale

He attributed the shortage to the closure of schools during the

four-day Easter weekend and the foul weather in some parts of the country.

He urged anyone between the ages of 16 and 65, weighing 50kg or

more, leading a healthy sexual lifestyle and in good health, to donate blood at

their nearest SANBS clinic to help patients in dire need of it.
