Bobby Motaung lashes out at Tau

2013-07-18 13:52

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has slammed former captain Jimmy Tau for the way in which he had reacted after not being given a new contract.

Motaung said they thought the two parties parted ways amicably but were surprised by the defender’s remarks afterwards.

“Let me voice my displeasure at the way Jimmy handled this whole thing. Some people are emotional and say things and we are disappointed in his conduct and we feel sorry for him,” said Motaung today.

“When Jimmy left, we released a statement with him but we were surprised that he went to radio stations to say those things.”

Tau had said he was disappointed with how the matter was handled after serving the club with honesty for years. He said the coach had assured him he still wanted him at the club but the management decided against it.

But Motaung said it would not have made good business sense to renew Tau’s contract, particularly after he did not play the whole season because of injuries.

“If, for argument’s sake, I give him R2 million, I need to justify to the management and the board why (I gave) so much money to a player who never played. Is it fair to put Jimmy on the bench at his age?” asked Motaung.

But marketing manager Jessica Motaung chipped in and said Tau had served the team with honesty and loyalty and wished him all the best.

“He was a good servant to the club for all the years he spent here and we wish him well,” she said.
