The body of a missing five-year-old girl was found in bushes in Bredasdorp yesterday afternoon.

“The death of a five-year-old girl is being investigated after her body was found in a bushy area in Bredasdorp [in the Overberg],” said Western Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut.

The girl was reported missing on Sunday.

“Finer aspects of our investigation cannot be disclosed at this stage,” Traut said.

Exactly two years ago, the case of Anene Booysen caught international media attention after she was raped and disembowelled in Bredasdorp.

She was found on February 2 2013 on a construction site and died in hospital later that day.

Her killer Johannes Kana was given two life sentences for crimes against the teenager. His attempt to apply for leave to appeal against his conviction was denied by the Western Cape High Court.
