‘Bogus’ doctors re-arrested

2011-05-12 08:49

Five of six men being tried in Mpumalanga for allegedly impersonating doctors and committing fraud, were re-arrested for alleged illegal immigration, the provincial home affairs department said today.

Immigration division spokesperson Benneth Japara said the five were arrested outside the Middelburg Regional Court yesterday.

“The case is now being attended to by head office, we are awaiting documentation from the head office.”

The five Nigerian and Zambian men were leaving the court when the home affairs officials and police detained them. They had appeared at the court on charges of corruption, fraud, indecent assault and impersonating doctors.

The Sowetan reported the case was postponed after the men’s lawyer withdrew from the case.
