Boitumelo Thulo – Nailing it

2012-11-23 11:03

Budding TV star Boitumelo Thulo plans to make her career as bright as her favourite nail polish.

She is a real rainbow child. Literally. Boitumelo’s love for nail polish means she now owns more than 160 bottles of the stuff.

‘I used to wear 10 colours at the same time, but I have since toned it down to just three,’ says the 22-year-old Potchefstroom model and TV presenter.

Boity’s nail polish affair started during her high school years, when the forbidden proved too much to resist.

‘We weren’t allowed to wear nail polish to school so it was the first thing I put on at the week-end,’ she laughs.

She views her nail polish obsession as an extension of her artistic expression. ‘But mostly, I love the fact that when I put on fresh new nail polish, everything seems fresher and I feel happier. It’s a great pick-me-up.’

‘Whenever ‘Sexiest’ and ‘Most Beautiful’ lists are compiled in South Africa, her name is never left out. Boity has lit up our TV screens since her debut as a cute-but-awkward waitress on the 2010 Wimpy advert that made her a household face.

That was my first audition and first TV appearance. I had people approaching me to tell me they liked they ad. That was great,’ she says.

Not content with just being a face, the ambitious youngster began co-hosting the SABC1 educational series The Media Career Guide Show last year, before moving to the TV station’s youth reality series Zoned this year. One of her biggest coups was being appointed as the brand ambassodor for Iman Cosmetics.

‘It is such a humbling experience to represent a well-known brand that is owned by one of the most graceful and inspirational models from Africa.’

As for her future, Boity says she working on perfecting her acting skills. ‘It’s a never-ending job, but I’ve been very blessed to be put on this journey.’
