Bolt: SA has sprinting talent but ...

2012-03-24 14:13

On his preparations for London Olympics
I have been training hard over the winter with my coach Glen Mills and my training partners at the Racers Track Club.

Things are going well.

On his standing Olympic sprints records – 9.69 in the 100m and 19.30 in the 200m
My aim in London is to defend my Olympic titles. I never go into a race thinking about the times – the most important thing is to win.

On his assessment of his compatriots Yohan Blake (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay) and Jermaine Gonzales (400m, 4x400m relay) who were the success stories at the IAAF World Championships last year

They are my training partners and friends. I have been telling people how good they were for a long time and both did well in 2011 (at the world champs in Daegu, South Korea).

On his views on South African sprinters and the continent’s ability in the sprints
Africa dominates the long distance events but you (South Africa) also have good sprinting talent that can do well with the right coaching and guidance.

On what can be expected of him in the track fashion stakes after he entered Beijing 2008 in golden Puma running spikes that had “Beijing 100m Gold” emblazoned across them
You will have to wait and see – I always like to have something up my sleeve.

On his plans post-London Olympics
My aim at the moment is for the Olympic Games.

Afterwards I will run some more races and then go for a long holiday with some friends.

On his other interests other than athletics
I love other sports, especially football and basketball, music, cars, video games, movies – the usual things.
