Boo and face arrest, Eastern Cape ANC warns members

2014-01-22 15:57

The ANC in the Eastern Cape has issued a stern warning to its members before President Jacob Zuma’s visit to Dutywa on Sunday – boo, and you’ll be arrested by police or disciplined by the party.

The party’s provincial secretary, Oscar Mabuyane, has issued a statement calling for “maximum discipline, good conduct and order in the stadium”.

Zuma’s visit and keynote speech forms the Eastern Cape leg of the party’s manifesto launch.

“As the province, we are known of (sic) the high levels of discipline and we cannot allow that reputation to be compromised,” Mabuyane said.

“The high-level security organised for the event is prepared to deal with any unbecoming conduct, booing and hooliganism that will disturb the ANC programme on the day.

“Any ANC member and supporter has a responsibility to detect any planned action and immediately inform the leadership and security,” Mabuyane wrote.

“We must allow not only the ANC president but all speakers on the day to deliver their message without disturbing (sic). All those found with the intent or disturbing the programme will be arrested by the police and ANC members found will be charged and disciplined.”

He ended on a conciliatory note, saying all those who wanted to attend the rally should contact the party’s regional offices for more information and to organise transport.

“This is your manifesto, let’s all take it to the people,” the statement concluded.
