Boxing league’s fight night floored

2013-10-25 16:42

The Fight Night Four of the Premier Boxing League (PBL), initially scheduled for tonight at East London’s Orient Theatre, has been cancelled at the eleventh hour for “technical reasons”.

This is according to the league’s spokesperson, Brian Ndevu, who refused to divulge further details.

“There were technical issues we had to deal with and I must admit we did not anticipate this to happen,” said Ndevu.

But Boxing SA chief executive Loyiso Mtya said the postponement was the result of the separate contracts the PBL has with and an independent production team that failed to make it to East London on time.

According to the sport’s rules and regulations, boxers meant to participate in a postponed tournament are entitled to be compensated with 10% of their purse money.

Mtya said arrangements to compensate fighters were well under way.
