Boy killed on funfair ride

2013-05-31 09:10

A five-year-old boy was accidentally killed on a funfair ride in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal police have said.

The boy was on a ride at the Royal Show at midday yesterday when the incident took place, said Lieutenant Joey Jeevan today.

“It is alleged that the child stood up while the ride was in operation and was unfortunately hit by another car on the ride,” she said.

“The operator who witnessed the accident immediately stopped the ride and ER24 emergency services were contacted.”

The boy received immediate treatment and resuscitation was performed, but he died.

Jeevan said an inquest docket had been opened, and police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The CEO of the Royal Show is immensely distressed by this freak accident and records his condolences to the family,” said Jeevan.

“He assures the public that a thorough investigation into the matter will take place.”
