A man has been arrested in connection with the decomposing body of

a woman found at Prince Mshiyeni Hospital in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal.

“Police arrested the man believed to be the woman’s boyfriend in

Umlazi last night (Monday),” said lieutenant-colonel Vincent Mdunge.

The police caught the man while he was trying to flee to

A murder case was opened when the woman’s body was discovered on

Monday last week, Mdunge said.

The woman was found covered in a blanket in the toilets off the

hospital hall.

The provincial health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo visited the hospital

last week and said it was unclear how the body ended up there.

On Monday it was reported that possible family members of the woman

were undergoing DNA testing.

Mdunge said the situation had become confusing as some people

claimed to be related to the woman, while others thought to be family were

denying it.

Mdunge said the identification process involving the family started

last week.

In January, it was reported that the body of a baby had gone

missing from the hospital’s mortuary. The hospital staff said they did not know

what had happened to it.

Four people were being investigated over the disappearance.
