The lawyer representing senior prosecutor Glynnis Breytenbach has given the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) until tomorrow afternoon to reinstate her to her job.

Attorney Gerhard Wagenaar told City Press he and Breytenbach met the NPA this afternoon to discuss her return to the authority.

Breytenbach is head of the NPA’s commercial-crimes unit in Pretoria.

According to Wagenaar, the NPA said it was still considering whether to allow Breytenbach back and in what position.

The NPA is reviewing last week’s ruling in Breytenbach’s disciplinary hearing that was decided 15-0 in the prosecutor’s favour.

“We said we disagree and that she is entitled to return to her old job. They asked to be given time until close of business tomorrow to decide and we agreed.”

Asked what Breytenbach would do if the NPA does not allow her to return to work, Wagenaar said they were still considering various options but couldn’t exclude the possibility of an urgent court application to return her to her position.
