Brother killed over booze money at family ceremony – report

2012-07-09 08:54

An argument over drinking money during a cleansing ceremony ended in the death of a man at the weekend.

The Nkuna family were in Mahwelereng’s Zone B section near Mokopane, Limpopo, for an ancestral cleansing when two brothers had a fight, allegedly over R200, according to the Sowetan.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mohale Ramatseba said the older brother allegedly stabbed his younger brother in the stomach, head, and wrist. The younger brother died on the scene, on Saturday at 5pm.

The younger brother had apparently asked the older brother for R200 during the ceremony. They were supposed to share it on alcohol. However, the younger brother allegedly squandered the money on his own, angering his sibling.

Ramatseba said a man was arrested and expected to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrates’ Court today.

He urged families with domestic disputes to seek help from professionals, instead of resorting to violence.
