Burkina Faso snatch late draw against Morocco

2014-01-16 22:17

It was a game of missed opportunities as Morocco drew 1-1 with Burkina Faso in their Group B match of the African Nations Championship (Chan).

If Morocco don't make it to the knockout stages of the tournament they will rue these missed chances.

After scoring early on through Brahim El Bahri who caught the West Africans cold inside the first minute of the game – the quickest goal of the tournament – Morocco failed to kill off the game.

What followed their goal was a comedy of school boy errors from the North Africans, who could have won by more than six goals.

Burkina Faso had their chances but they also fluffed them until the dying minutes when Bassirou Ouédraogo put one in the net.

This was a cruel blow to Morocco as they deserved the three points but Burkina Faso’s never-say-die attitude was the winner.

The draw means Group B will only be settled by the last matches on Monday when Burkina Faso take on Zimbabwe and Morocco face Uganda.

Whoever wins on Monday will be guaranteed a place in the knockout stages as they all still have a chance of going through.

Uganda lead the group on four points while Zimbabwe and Morocco are both on two. Burkina Faso collected their first point tonight.

It is game on!
