A man was killed and three others, including a police officer, were wounded during a shoot-out and high-speed chase near Krugersdorp, west of Joburg, today, according to Gauteng police.

Five men entered a house in Randfontein at 7am and tied a domestic worker and a boy up, Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

They took valuables including a TV set, computer and R25 000 in cash before loading them into the homeowner’s Mercedes-Benz.

As the robbers were speeding away in two cars, police chased them in vans and a shoot-out ensued.

One of three men standing on the roadside between Kagiso and Chamdor died when he was hit by stray bullets. The other two were wounded.

“A male police officer sustained slight injuries after one of the vans they were travelling in overturned during the chase. Two robbers were arrested when the police finally cornered them, about 1km away. Their three accomplices fled in another car.”

The two men, aged between 27 and 29, were expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates Court on Monday.
