CCTV footage used to arrest robber

Police used closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage to arrest a man who allegedly robbed a garage in Meadowlands, Soweto. Police said on today.

“The police bust the 27-year-old man at his home on Wednesday around 3pm after the community members identified him on the a CCTV camera footage of the Sasol garage,” said Constable Sibusiso Chauke.

“A cellphone of one of the workers of the garage, several packs of cigarettes and a 9mm pistol that the man used in the crime were found in his possession.”

The man was caught on camera entering the garage at 7am yesterday and forcing two workers to lie down at gun-point. The footage showed him running away with R650 cash and other stolen items.

The man was expected appear in the Orlando Magistrates Court tomorrow on charges of business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
