CPJ welcomes ANC’s stance on Malema

2010-04-10 09:36

The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) on Friday

welcomed the ANC’s condemnation of its Youth League leader Julius Malema for his

behaviour toward a journalist.

CPJ Africa programme co-ordinator Tom Rhodes said: “We welcome the

ANC party’s decision to condemn this act.”

Rhodes was responding to an incident on Thursday during a press

conference when the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) president criticised the Zimbabwean

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) for working from “air-conditioned offices

in Sandton”.

“But you live in Sandton,” replied BBC’s Jonah Fisher.

Malema then became angry and called Fisher a “bastard” and a

“bloody agent“. Fisher then took his equipment and left the press conference.
