Mzansi may be in the grip of Soccer World Cup

fever but the rest of the world is carrying on as usual, with regular fare like

the 63rd international Cannes Film Festival already well underway in the south

of France.

As usual, a bevy of A-list celebrities headed to the Croisette for

a week of press events, red carpet moments and fabulous parties on fancy yachts.

While many people will be glued to news of the movie du jour at the

festival, many more will be interested in who is wearing what designer

From the onset it was clear that Aishwarya Rai and Eva Longoria

were determined to be the style winners. The twosome stuck to each other during

red-carpet photo calls on the first day as they showed off their respective

glorious designer gowns.

On they second day they did the same – pitching up

together on the red carpet in yet another pair of couture gowns.

Cate Blanchett refused to fade into the background, appearing in a

moon-pink ballgown from Armani Prive’s SS10 collection while Kate Beckinsale

looked angelic and iridescent in a frothy Marchesa creation.

Salma Hayek debuted the very first couture gown from the Gucci

Première collection – a very sexy wine-red number that stole the show at the

festival premiere of Robin Hood.

Helen Mirren showed that you’re never too old to look super

fabulous in her regal black Elie Saab gown. Whichever movie ultimately wins the

coveted Palme d’Or, fashion pundits have already chosen their style winners

among these leading ladies.
