Cape Town Fashion Week: Day 1

2011-07-15 12:22

The first day of fashion week saw a host of young designers showcase their best designs in the hope of scoring R100 000 from Foschini.

Out of what seemed like countless hopefuls, only three ended up winning the internships.

Usually, the regular fashion week crowd does not attend the fast track day, which was filled with the young designer’s fellow students who came to cheer them on.

And to be honest, the younger crowd really tried to liven up the place and even the organisers, Africa Fashion International, tried to make the set-up look young with the DJs’ turntables placed in the centre of the ramp.

The younger crowd were entertained by both the DJs and the clothes on show.

Speaking of the designs, there is a lot of talent in Cape Town.

Most designs were a solid effort with some even going as far as to look outstanding like one of the winners, Thoko Tafeni who seemed to have gained a bucket load of fans at the show.

His line consisted of some well-constructed garments that showed a coherent theme in white ending with a sexy white wedding gown – or rather a gown Naomi Campbell would wear to someone’s wedding.

For some more entertainment, street wear brands Vandal Active Wear by DJ Sbu from Metro FM and Butan wear, which has Slikour as one of its ambassadors, showcased their collection to the ready-to-party young set.
