Cape Town is behind Bafana – Patricia de Lille

2014-01-10 10:22

Bafana Bafana were paid a surprise visit by Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille at their training venue in Pinelands.

De Lille said her visit yesterday was to encourage the team and to assure the players that they had the city’s support. She said she had no doubt that the team would do the country proud in the African Nations Championship (Chan), which starts tomorrow. Bafana open their campaign against Mozambique at the Cape Town Stadium at 6pm.

“On behalf of the people of Cape Town, I just want to say we are very proud of you and we know you always play well in our city. We are looking forward to keeping the cup in South Africa,” said De Lille.

The mayor also urged Capetonians and South Africans to make every Friday a Bafana Friday by wearing the national team colours in support of the team.

“Let’s get the World Cup fever back by wearing our Bafana colours on Fridays. The city will go all out to make the tournament a success and make all the teams’ stay comfortable. We have proved before that the perception that we are not a football city was a wrong one. The last time Bafana played here we had more than 30 000 supporters and we will show again that we support the national team.”

De Lille said the city would bid for more Bafana games in future in order to forge a good working relationship with Safa.
