Caretaker convicted of murder

2011-05-19 12:53

A former caretaker at the German School in Pretoria, Gerhard Sippel, was today convicted of murdering a young school teacher two years ago.

The Pretoria High Court found Sippel guilty of the April 2009 murder of his former lover Ina Halfter (28) at her flat in Equestria, eastern Pretoria.

Halfter was found with head wounds and had a rope tied three times around her neck in her locked flat.

Judge Tshifiwa Maumela found Sippel had motive and opportunity to murder Halfter.

He was severely upset when she broke up with him and told him she might be pregnant with her former boyfriend in Germany’s child.

He also had access to keys and tags to her residence and could easily have locked the flat behind him after killing her, Maumela said.
