Caster Semenya will mark her first appearance on the track since she failed to qualify for the IAAF World Championships that was staged in Russia a fortnight ago.

Semenya (22) is one of the former and current world champions who will headline the Weltklasse Zurich Diamond League meeting in Switzerland tomorrow.

She will join a contingent of other South African athletes who have also been invited to the Zurich event, including Team SA 1 500m bronze medallist Johan Cronje, long jumpers Khotso Mokoena and Zarck Visser, as well as javelin thrower Sunette Viljoen.

Semenya, who ran just four races this season, will square up against a strong field that includes reigning world champion Eunice Jepkoech Sum of Kenya.

Sum beat Mariya Savinova to the global title at the track and field global meet in Moscow.

The Limpopo-born runner will also renew her rivalry with Russians Savinova and Yekaterina Poistogova, going up against them for the first time since their podium finish at the Olympic Games in London last year.

Semenya last competed towards the end of July in her futile attempt at qualifying for the world championships. She won the Flanders Cup meeting in Ninove, Belgium, in a time of 2:01.86, which was still short of making a B-standard qualifier.

Meanwhile, another draw card at the Zurich meeting will be a star-studded 100m field that has triple world champ Usain Bolt, his compatriot Nesta Carter, and Americans Justin Gatlin and Walter Dix.
