Cato Manor bail application under way

2012-06-21 09:57

The bail application by 20 members of Durban’s Cato Manor organised crime unit arrested yesterday on 71 charges – including 14 murder charges – has begun.

Police captain Neville Eva addressed the court on behalf of all 20 accused, saying that they had cooperated with investigators since December last year and were in no way a flight risk.

He said he and his colleagues had handed in the weapons for ballistics testing and had also cooperated with every request for information from the investigation teams.

Eva told the court his unit had been investigated by both the Hawks and the IPID (Independent Police Investigative Unit) and had cooperated with both.
