Charlie Hebdo ‘brought attacks upon itself’

2015-01-23 18:34

The French cartoonists killed by Muslim extremists earlier this month at the Paris offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo brought the attacks upon themselves, says an imam in a mostly Muslim Serbian town.

“Those who commissioned the cartoons are guilty for the assassination in Paris, because with it they insulted a billion and a half Muslims worldwide,” Irfan Malic told thousands of people rallying against the magazine’s publication of cartoons of the prophet Muhammad.

“If two or three reacted inadequately, condemn them, but do not blame Islam and Muslims,” he told a crowd of some 5000 people in Novi Pazar, in the mostly Muslim Sandzak region in southwestern Serbia.

“We are against all terrorism and will not answer insults with insults,” Beta news agency reported.

The rally was peaceful.
