Chiefs begin Nedbank Cup defence against Leopards

2014-01-17 09:05

Defending Nedbank Cup champions Kaizer Chiefs will begin their trophy defence away from home against National First Division campaigners Black Leopards.

This follows the draw of the Last 32, which was conducted in Randburg last night.

The pick of the draw was undoubtedly the all-PSL club fixtures involving Ajax Cape Town and 2008 champions Mamelodi Sundowns, as well as the Tshwane derby between University of Pretoria (AmaTuks) and SuperSport United.

There could be another derby, provided that Polokwane City Rovers see off AmaBEE FC for a date with Polokwane City to enter the competition properly.

The outstanding Last 32 qualifier will take place this weekend.

The lucrative Nedbank Cup, which carries a R6 million winners’ purse, pits the 16 Absa Premiership clubs against sides from the National First Division and amateur outfits from the Safa regions. It kicks off next month.

The Premier Soccer League is yet to announce the dates and venues.
