Chiefs rub more salt in Bucs’ wounds

Kaizer Chiefs scored another triumph over Orlando Pirates, this time after the Amakhosi scooped virtually all the individual accolades on offer at the Telkom Knockout awards today.

Chiefs’ clean sweep came just 48 hours after they thrashed Pirates 3-0 to claim the R4.25 million title.

The three-time winners snatched four of the five awards on offer totalling R750 000 and immediately dedicated their success to team-mate SiphiweTshabalala, who had lost his mother shortly after Shabba scored one of the goals that humbled the Buccaneers on Saturday.

Itumeleng Khune, who kept a clean sheet in three games, walked away with the Goalkeeper of the Tournament. He beat Orlando Pirates’ Moeneeb Josephs and Shuaib Walters of Maritzburg United to the R100 000 prize.

Captain Jimmy Tau was voted the best defender and was shortly followed to the podium by Reneilwe Letsholonyane who claimed the midfielder title of the competition.

The pair received R100 000 each.Top striker Knowledge Musona, also known as the “Smiling Assassin” received the best striker award.

Musona is also in line for the the big one – the Player of the Tournament – which carries a whopping R200 000.

The other nominations are Andle Jali and Letsholonyane.The winner will be announced at the PSL awards at the end of the season.

At the awards ceremony, held in Sandton, Johannesburg, Chiefs waded off competition from Pirates who had Josephs, Jali and Ezenwa Otorogu nominated in all the categories.
