China says selection of IMF chief should be based on merit

2011-05-17 08:43

Beijing – China’s Foreign Ministry said today that the selection for leadership of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) should be based on “fairness, transparency and merit”, but declined comment on the charges against its chief, Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

Strauss-Kahn remains the head of the International Monetary Fund, but was denied bail and sent to a New York jail yesterday, a blow as he fights charges that he assaulted and tried to rape a hotel maid.
