Coetzee to miss Bafana clash against Senegal

2015-01-21 15:58

Bafana Bafana defender Rivaldo Coetzee has been ruled out for Friday evening’s match against Senegal.

Coetzee was taken off the field in a stretcher during the match against Algeria, and according to team doctor Thulani Ngwenya, the Ajax Cape Town defender will not feature in the second clash against Senegal. Kick off is at 9pm SA time.

Ngwenya said Coetzee suffered a sprained ligament under the right knee, ruling him out as an option for the next match.

“But he is not out of camp and he will probably be back for our final group game.”

Ngwenya denied that they had rushed Coetzee back to play when he was not fully fit. This after he missed the friendly match against Mali last week as he was recuperating from a knee injury. But Ngwenya said the injury was on a different knee.

“He was declared fit to play in the tournament and this is a different injury as this one is a sprained muscle under the right knee while the previous one was on the side of the left knee.”

Bafana will welcome back defender Eric Mathoho and midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane, who both missed the opening match due to suspension.
