Comedian David Kau has signed a deal with a Los Angeles production and distribution company for his upcoming movie, Sekwankwetla, the National Film and Video Foundation said.

The deal was concluded yesterday with the founders of Archstone Companies, Scott Martin and Michael Slifkin, added the foundation.

Sekwankwetla tells the story of a South African township superhero whose super powers are that he can fly, but only at 10cm above the ground.

“We plan to shoot the film on location in KwaZulu-Natal and have already started negotiations with the newly established KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission representatives who are also attending the festival to market the province as a best location,” Kau said.

The film will be directed by Teboho Mahlatsi, best known for producing and directing the television series, YizoYizo.

Locally produced cop comedy Blitz Patrollie, which starred Kau and fellow comedian Joey Rasdien, was screened at the Cannes film festival in 2013.
