Immediately after touching down at OR Tambo International airport last night Ghana’s Black Stars made it clear they mean business.

Ghana’s captain Asamoah Gyan said they wanted to make their country proud but conceded it would not be easy, as any side was capable of lifting the trophy.

He said they knew expectations were high but they were ready for the challenge.

Gyan said coming to South Africa was like coming back home.

“The reception has been good and South Africa is like a second home to us. We won lots of hearts during the World Cup and we hope to do the same again,” said Gyan.

He declared they were ready to do their best in the Nations Cup as they did not want to disappoint their fans.

“We played two friendly games and did well and we are ready. We know it won’t be easy as other teams want to represent their nations well.”

He said the absence of top name players in the team, like Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari, was not going to affect the team as they have other capable good players.

He said the favourites tag would mean nothing if they cannot deliver on the field.

“Football is won on the field and we have to demonstrate for everyone to see. But we are ready to die for our nation and we are hoping for positive results. We are not here to add to the numbers but to do well.”

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah said they were happy to be part of the tournament but knew it would be very competitive.

“We will not underestimate any side and we will do the best that we can,” said Appiah.
