Team SA’s athletics able-bodied bunch will make a bid for a first track and field in the code’s three Commonwealth Games medal events tonight.

SA champion Zarck Visser and Rushwahl Samaai (long jump), Sunette Viljoen (javelin) and Wayde van Niekerk (400m) will contest the finals of their beats tonight.

Paralympian sprinter Fanie van der Merwe (gold) and Charl du Toit (silver) contributed in the athletics team’s medal count after they gave South Africa a 1-2 finish in the 100m T37 on Monday

A podium finish for Team SA across tonight’s athletics finals will improve the country’s position on the medal table rankings after South Africa slumped to seventh position – from fourth – after Day 6.
