Communication DG challenges dismissal

2010-07-29 07:28

The axed director-general (DG) in the Department of Communications, Mamodupi Mohlala has filed papers at the Johannesburg High Court challenging her dismissal, the SABC reported.

Mohlala told the broadcaster that she was challenging the legality of the termination of her employment, as she does not believe the minister (Siphiwe Nyanda) has powers to terminate her contract.

She said: “I was appointed by the Cabinet and only the president and the Cabinet could terminate my employment.”

Nyanda fired her last week for allegedly refusing to sign off on certain tenders, the broadcaster said.

Mohlala said she might be have been fired for instituting probe against her superior.
