2011-05-28 09:53

A police officer who was critically injured in a shootout in Heidelberg was stable following an operation, Gauteng police said.

“He had an operation last night [at the Union Hospital] to remove the bullets from his neck and shoulder and he is in recovery,” Constable Tinoane Sonopo said.

The policeman was wounded last night in a shootout with four suspected robbers at a house in Romyn Street, Rensburg.

Three of the robbers were killed and one was arrested.

The gang had allegedly held an elderly couple at gunpoint and ransacked their home, Sonopo said.

Four firearms were recovered.
