Cop’s house set alight

2011-06-20 14:43

A police station commander’s house in Meloding was set alight in the early hours of this morning, Free State police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Zenobia Hoko, her sister and two children were asleep when she started choking from the smoke, Warrant Officer Malebo Khosana said.

She woke up, saw her front door on fire and started putting the flames out. She managed to open the door and get everyone out. Hoko then called for her brother, who slept in a room outside.

Together, they put out the fire, which had spread to the curtains. Hoko and her family were not injured.

Police said paraffin was used to start the blaze. The motive was not known yet. No arrests had been made.
