Two police constables were shot dead by alleged robbers in Tsomo, Eastern Cape, today, according to police.

Brigadier Marinda Mills said the off-duty officers were killed while responding a robbery at a shop this morning.

“Whilst driving past the shop to the police station to obtain back up they came under gun fire.”

Mills said the constables, who were travelling in a private car, died at the scene.

She said the gunmen pulled out the officers’ bodies from the car and fled in it. They also stole the officer’s guns.

Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape Lieutenant-General Celiwe Binta said the killings would not go unpunished.

“I am also calling on the community of Tsomo, to support us in our efforts, to trace these murderers.”
