Cops launch manhunt for another Anika Smit murder accused

2010-05-20 12:31

A second person is being sought for the murder of Pretoria teenager

Anika Smit whose hands were chopped off, according to police.

However, Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini would not give out

further details and said the police continued to follow up on information.

Smit (17) was found murdered in March at her father’s home in

Theresa Park, north of Pretoria. She had been sexually assaulted, her throat was

slit and her hands removed.

The Hoërskool Gerrit Maritz pupil had not gone to school that day because

of an ear infection. Police have not yet found her hands.

They arrested a man believed to have been romantically involved

with Smit in connection with her murder.

Nico Venter appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court

yesterday and was released on bail of R10 000.

Venter, who attended Smit’s funeral, was arrested at the Carousel

staff village on Monday morning.

It emerged in court that Venter works for both the Carousel and the

Marula Casinos as a project manager.

He will appear in court again on September 14.
