Cops nab Amoes kidnapping suspects

2010-05-19 14:08

Police have confirmed that they have arrested three Angolan

citizens for the alleged kidnapping of five-year-old Samuel Amoes.

Amoes was kidnapped in Troyeville, Johannesburg, on May 9 but was

released two days later after his parents had reportedly paid about R1.1 million

for his release.

The abductors contacted his parents the day after the kidnapping,

asking for ransom money, and the parents, who have mining interests in Angola,

paid up on May 11.

Police confirmed that they received a tip-off on Saturday and arrested a

suspect, Francisco Jose (32), in Troyeville.

Jose led the police to two other suspects, Fernando Jamba (31) and

Domingo Jacob Santiego (30), in Bedfordview.

Jeppe police spokesperson Warrant Officer Richard Monyai said Jamba

was allegedly a relative of the Amoeses while Santiego was allegedly found with American

dollars in his possession. Monyai would not disclose the amount recovered by the police.

He said: “The suspects appeared in the Gauteng South High Court on

Monday and they were charged with kidnapping and money laundering.”

They were still in police custody and are expected to appear in

court on Monday for a bail application.

Monyai refused to divulge further details pending the completion of

police investigations.
