Cops question people over murder of newlywed UK tourist

2010-11-16 09:54

Cape Town police had taken people in for questioning in connection with the killing of UK tourist Anni Dewani in Gugulethu.

“At this moment, our detectives are busy with the questioning of certain persons,” said Captain Frederick van Wyk. “The investigation is at a very sensitive stage and we are not giving out any further information.”

Van Wyk declined to give any details, saying more information would be made available at a later stage.

Western Cape police yesterday appealed for “any person who can shed light on the circumstances of the incident, or the whereabouts of the suspects” to call investigating officer Colonel Riaan Theron on 082 463 8706.

The newlywed Dewani (28), who was on her honeymoon in Cape Town, was murdered during a suspected hijacking in the township at the weekend.

Her husband, Shrien, was not harmed.
