Cops stop ANC-DA clash

2011-04-27 10:51

Police had to intervene in Pretoria’s Mamelodi township when a group of ANC supporters tried stop a DA rally from taking place, the Pretoria News reported today.

Tshwane Metro Police and SA Police Service members had to prevent African National Congress members from getting too close to the Democratic Alliance rally being held at the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom Square today, reported the newspaper.

It said that DA supporters were taunted with comments such as: “Anyone who votes for a white party is insane and should be lynched”.

The ANC supporters apparently used a T-shirt with President Jacob Zuma’s face on it to “clean” the Solomon Mahlangu statue of “the DA dirt”, the report said.

Tshwane metro police told the Pretoria News that the DA had obtained the necessary permission to stage the rally where DA leader Helen Zille later spoke.
