Cosatu condemns Mkhize murder

2012-07-03 11:15

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has condemned the murder of ANC Hibiscus Coast municipality councillor Wandile Mkhize.

“It is very worrying that comrade Mkhize had informed the police that he had been receiving death threats,” Cosatu spokesman Patrick Craven said today.

“And that he had sent SMSes to his comrade (Sports and Recreation Minister) Fikile Mbalula on Saturday night, expressing his concern at divisions within the ANC.”

Cosatu demanded that the police find Mkhize’s killer. He was killed in a drive-by shooting in Manaba, Margate, around 10pm on Saturday.

The Witness reported that Mkhize sent Mbalula an SMS about unity in the party at 9.08pm on Saturday, just before he was murdered.

Mkhize was a former ANC Youth League regional leader. Last year, he unsuccessfully contested the post of league secretary general against Sindiso Magaqa. Magaqa has been suspended from the ANCYL for a year.
