Couple bound, shot dead in Alberton

2011-11-03 08:34

A couple, bound with packaging tape, has been found shot dead in their Verwoerdpark, Alberton, home.

The bodies of Carlos de Sousa (57) and his wife, Anna (50), were found by their domestic worker yesterday morning, The Star reported.

A firearm and a petty cash box had been stolen, but it appeared as though the killers were looking for something specific, Warrant Officer Annzuett Erasmus told the daily.

“Only the study downstairs and an office upstairs seemed to have been rummaged through,” she said. Police suspected that the murderer or murderers were known to the couple.

The front and back doors of the house were locked when the De Sousas’ maid arrived at the house for work yesterday. Only the front security gate was unlocked.

Erasmus said neighbours claimed they had heard gunshots at about 10pm on Tuesday. According to an unnamed police source, police were questioning workers of Carlos de Sousa’s construction company.

No arrests had been made.
