Court orders release of two of Waterkloof Four

2011-12-16 14:12

The North Gauteng High Court has ordered the release of two members of the Waterkloof Four.

This follows an urgent application made to the court after the Department of Correctional Services failed to release Gert van Schalkwyk and Reinach Tiedt because it was studying a ruling of the parole board, EyeWitness News reports.

The court found the department to be in contempt of court because it had ignored an earlier court ruling.

The Waterkloof Four were sentenced to 12 years in jail for killing a homeless man and assaulting another.

They started serving their sentences in 2008.
