South African's from all walks of life gathered at the OR Tambo Airport today, to welcome home Miss World Rolene Strauss.

The crowd was singing and dancing with placards aloft in front of the arrivals terminal. Others watched from around the airport.

One placard read: "Welcome back home daughter of the soil. Beautiful women are made in Mzansi."

One man had a painting of Strauss.

Itumeleng Mashele said she was at the airport to celebrate Strauss' achievement as she had represented South Africa very well.

"It has not happened since 1974 that a South African has won the title. We are here to celebrate with her," she said.

Strauss arrived at about 10am.
