‘Crumbling’ Main Reef deposits client’s refund

2010-09-11 13:12

Linda Shongwe was elated when he found an extra R6 000 in his bank account.

This is the refund Shongwe received last Wednesday from Main Reef Construction.

“I never thought I would receive my money. I did not trust this company.

“Thank you, City Press,” said a relieved Shongwe.

Lisa, the company’s accountant who declined to provide her surname, said everything had been sorted out with Shongwe.

Early this year, Shongwe thought he had reached a dead-end and would never receive his money back when he was told that Main Reef Construction had been liquidated.

In February, Shongwe paid a R6 000 deposit to the company to make him aluminium windows which cost R12 747.

He said he was promised that the windows would be delivered to his home in Ermelo within three weeks but that did not happen.

Shongwe said that when he followed up, he was told that the company had been liquidated.

“When I called Patience, their consultant, she said the company had been liquidated and I could only get my deposit when the lawyers had finalised the process,” said a distraught Shongwe.

Later, Shongwe allegedly discovered through an employee of Main Reef Construction that the company had, in fact, not closed down.

After that, he changed his mind, cancelled his order and asked for a refund.

“I was referred to Lisa, who is their accountant, and she was very negative and said that I have to wait.

“I want to recover the deposit but I live in Ermelo and cannot come to Johannesburg to get my problem sorted,” said Shongwe.
