D-Day for Oscar

2012-08-05 09:05

Oscar Pistorius was Team SA’s last man standing on the second day of the athletics programme after Khotso Mokoena came short of success in the long jump final last night.

The “Blade Runner” yesterday became the first double amputee to run on the Olympic stage – and he delivered a good show during the 400m heats.

He finished second in a time of 45.44 to make the final tonight (9.40pm SA time).

First up, the women’s marathon will take to the road this morning (12pm SA time).

Rene Kalmer, Irvette van Blerk and Tanith Maxwell will carry the nation’s hope in the 42km race at The Mall.
Meanwhile, Mokoena’s best jump of 7.93m placed him eighth in the final rankings.

Local boy Greg Rutherford took gold in 8.31m, Mitchell Watt of Australia came second in 8.16m and American Will Claye was third in 8.12m.
