DJ stole my heart and virginity

The former lover of popular Ukhozi FM DJ Khathide “Tshatha’’ Ngobe is preparing to go to court to force the high-flyer to pay damages for taking her virginity.

Zathaba Nzuza (20) told City Press her father’s lawyer had drafted a court application which would be served on Ngobe tomorrow to force him to pay damages of three cows and a goat and to stop him from leaving the country on honeymoon until he does so.

She had earlier briefed lawyers to interdict Ngobe from marrying Nontobeko Khuzwayo in favour of an out-of-court settlement which she claimed Ngobe failed to honour.

On Thursday, while he was marrying Khuzwayo at a glitzy ceremony at Ballito’s eBandla Hotel north of Durban, Nzuza and other Zulu maidens marched on the SABC offices in Durban demanding that the corporation ban him from attending the yearly Reed Dance ceremony at Nongoma.

Nzuza claimed she met Ngobe at the Reed Dance in 2008 and gave up her virginity when he promised to marry her.

The women who accompanied her in the protest claimed that Ngobe took advantage of young maidens he met at the ceremony every year.

An enraged Nzuza said Ngobe had promised to make her his second wife and to pay the damages as agreed.

“He promised me I’d be his second wife but I don’t want that any more. He has got to cleanse the maidens, the chief and my family’s name,” said Nzuza.

Family sources said Ngobe had only paid R2 000 and a goat instead of the three cows and a goat he had agreed to pay in inhlawulo (damages for taking a maiden’s virginity).

“I will fight till the end. My father was furious but after they promised to come back with the full price, he understood,” she said.

On Thursday Ngobe’s wedding party drove around the city to several locations before arriving at eBandla to avoid Nzuza arriving and creating a scene.

The couple were understood to have taken their vows privately several days earlier.

Ngobe denied promising to marry Nzuza.

“I don’t know why she is doing this, but I’ve never promised to marry her or anyone except the woman I just got married to. If she says she is taking me to court, on what grounds?”

Ngobe shot to fame hosting a traditional music show on Ukhozi called Sigiya Ngengoma, which scooped awards at the South African Traditional Music Awards. He also co-hosts the SABC 1 music show, Roots.
