De Sa replaces Palacios as Bucs coach

2012-09-10 12:10

Roger De Sa has been named as the new Orlando Pirates coach, the club has announced.

The former BidVest Wits coach replaces Augusto Palacios, who stepped down because health reasons.

De SA has ten years of experience as a coach. He began his coaching career as a Player Coach at Wits University.

He won Coach of the Season in his first year as coach of Wits University and in 2010 won the Nedbank Cup.

“Roger is a team player who has worked in various capacities for our senior and junior national teams, including being roped in to the technical team of the Portuguese national team during the 2010 Fifa World Cup,” Pirates chairperson Irvin Khoza said on the club’s official website.

“I have no doubt that he will find the new challenge at Orlando Pirates a worthwhile enhancement to his career.

“This has to be the right time as I had years ago contacted the chairman for this job to no avail,” De Sa said.
“When I got the chairman’s call I was obviously delighted as I believe I am up to the task at hand,” said De Sa.

Palacios will go back to his former position in the development structures of Orlando Pirates Football Club, the club said.

However, he is expected to be out for several months after undergoing major spinal surgery.
