2Bop is, without question, starting to own the high end of South Africa’s rising streetwear market.

It has just launched its new collection of apparel. For the range, it has collaborated with artists working in various styles.

#Trending came across its work with young artist Chloë Hugo-Hamman.

The Cape Town experimenter has carved a name for herself as a collagist. Her fascination with cutting and pasting images to conjure beautiful new designs has informed her work with 2Bop.

Together they’ve created a range that uses cut-up images taken from bargain advertising leaflets.

The result is clothing that is bright, quirky and street-savvy.

It includes T-shirts and fisherman hats that are as explosive, busy and full of information as the streets that inspire them.

It’s as if the creatives have simply looked at the advertising papers that litter township streets and collected them to create something more.

This tendency to focus on recycled advertising material to create a usable product has precedence in the product wrapping being used to wallpaper shacks.
